Balfour Castle is situated on the island of Shapinsay, one of the Orkney Islands and is 25 minutes by sea from the Capital, Kirkwall. It is surrounded by the sea, fresh air, the cry of birds, seals and archaeological sites including the Stone Age Village of Skara Brae.
The Castle, still a family home, dates back to the 1840's complete with its original furniture and fittings. Enjoy large open fires and the spacious bedrooms which overlook the sea. A "Calendar House" with 52 rooms, 12 exterior doors, 7 turrets and 365 panes of glass. Rooms are large, light and spacious. Most bedrooms overlook the sea and have four poster, canopy or Victorian brass beds. Rooms are mostly en-suite and are heated. The main living rooms house large open fires.
